Understanding how Gelacy's translation system works will help you set up your multilingual store correctly and avoid common setup issues.
I. Understanding Default and Target Languages
Your default language is your store's original content language - the foundation that gets translated into other languages (called target languages). Think of it as your master content that Gelacy uses as the source for all translations.
Key point: Translation in Gelacy works in one direction only - from default language to target languages, never the reverse.
II. Common Setup Issue and Solution
The Problem: You want to translate your store into Italian, but Italian doesn't appear in your target language options.
Why this happens: Your store's default language is already set to Italian. Since Gelacy can't translate Italian content into Italian, the system prevents you from selecting the same language twice.
The Solution:
→ Change your default language to a different language (like English)
→ Save the changes
→ Now Italian will appear as an available target language option
→ Select Italian as your target language
III. Best Practice for Setup
Before starting translations, ensure all your store content (product descriptions, pages, menus) is written consistently in your chosen default language. This creates a solid foundation for accurate translations across all target languages.
