Why Translations May Appear with a Delay

Modified on Thu, 15 Jan at 5:01 AM

When customers visit your store or switch languages, you may notice that translations do not appear instantly. In some cases, it can take around 3-5 seconds before translated content is displayed.

This behavior is expected when using auto-translation technology and does not indicate an issue with your store or setup.

Why This Delay Happens

The translation delay occurs due to how store content and auto-translation are processed:

  1. The store loads default content first
Your storefront initially loads in its original language.

  2. Gelacy waits for all content to fully load
This includes dynamic and third-party elements.

  3. Third-party translation begins
Once all content is available, the auto-translation process starts.

  4. Translations are displayed after processing completes
This results in a short, visible delay before translations appear.

The delay duration may vary depending on factors such as:

  • Browser cache

  • Network speed

  • Device performance

In most cases, the delay is minimal and barely noticeable to visitors.

Important Note About Auto-Translations

The translations you are currently seeing are generated by third-party auto-translation services.

Auto-translation requires scanning page content before replacing it with translated text, which is why a short delay is unavoidable.

How to Make Translations Appear Instantly

To achieve faster translation display, we strongly recommend creating in-app translations for your most important content.

Create In-App Translations for Key Content

  1. Go to Manage Translations in your Gelacy menu

  2. Translate critical content such as:

    • Product titles

    • Navigation menus

    • Buttons and labels

  3. Save your translations

Result: Customers see translated content faster when switching languages.

Can the Translation Speed Be Improved Further?

At this time, there is no way to fully eliminate the delay for auto-translated content.

A slight delay is common across all apps that rely on auto-translation technology. While we have explored multiple optimization approaches, none have produced meaningful performance improvements so far.

That said, our team is actively researching new and emerging technologies to identify potential enhancements in the future.

Alternative Options

If instant translation is critical and your browser cache and network performance are not contributing factors, you may consider using a solution without auto-translation technology.

Please note that these solutions often come with trade-offs:

  • Translations take longer to create and manage

  • Manual updates are required whenever new content is added

  • Frequent logins may be needed to maintain translations

Summary

  • A short translation delay (few seconds) is normal with auto-translation

  • The delay depends on content loading and processing

  • In-app translations provide the fastest and most reliable experience

  • Full elimination of auto-translation delay is currently not possible
